On BBC2′s Apprentice meets Kitchen Nightmares ‘The Restaurant’. It came to my work canteen, at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories. Readers of this blog may be aware of the misery the canteen has caused me. From over zealous canteen ladies charging me twice for chips, lumpy one mushroom steak and kidney pie to careful plate size manipulation the canteen has become more trouble than its worth. Imagine my surprise when TV crews turned up! The premise is three of the failing kitchen teams have to take a challenge – in this episode to utilise my work canteen to feed the hordes of builders, cardigan wearing scientists and rotund IT nerds. If you watch the show you will have noticed an American ‘actress’ with an incredibly annoying voice – I went to her kitchen. The food was about a millions times better than usual – I had a burrito with salsa. But if you watch the prog you will notice I go to the counter then leave. That’s because she was explaining in her piercing shrill voice that we could have a ‘side’ of nachos. I had to step away and come back to get my food once she had shut her trap…
